Group Tabs privacy policy

No Group Tabs server, telemetry, or user accounts. Tab organization runs entirely on your device by default. If you optionally configure a third-party AI provider (e.g. Google Gemini or OpenAI), tab titles and hostnames are sent directly to that provider solely for categorization.

What the extension accesses

• Tab titles and URLs — to group tabs by site or topic and to save sessions.
• Tab group metadata such as names and colors — to save and restore groups.

Where tab organization happens

Local & Default Modes: Site grouping uses local rules on your machine. Fast offline topic grouping and Chrome's built-in Prompt API (Gemini Nano) run 100% on-device without sending tab data over the network.

Optional Cloud AI (BYOK): If you explicitly choose to configure an API key for Google Gemini, OpenAI, Groq, or OpenRouter, tab titles and hostnames are transmitted directly to that provider's API over encrypted HTTPS solely to generate topic category assignments. The extension developer operates no intermediate servers and collects no data.

What is stored

• Manual saved sessions: group names, colors, and tab URLs are stored with chrome.storage.sync when the saved data fits Chrome's sync quota. Larger sessions stay in chrome.storage.local on this device.
• Automatic recovery snapshots: the latest three snapshots stay in chrome.storage.local on this device and are not synced.
• Settings: automation settings stay on this device. Preferred AI topic names may use Chrome Sync.

Chrome Sync is a browser service governed by your Chrome account and Google settings. Group Tabs does not operate that service.

What the developer collects

Nothing. Group Tabs has no analytics, telemetry, cookies, accounts, advertising, or developer-operated backend.

Data deletion

Delete any saved session from the popup; this removes it from whichever extension storage area contains it. Uninstalling removes device-local extension data. Chrome Sync data is also subject to your browser's sync and account controls.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new last-updated date.
